A warrior's blade finds its mark as much by will as by skill.[1]

Heroic Strike is a warrior ability that all warriors start out with. It's an attack that increases the damage of your next auto-attack.

Notes[]

The regular attack that Heroic Strike enhances generates no Rage.

If the melee timer comes up while this is active and there are no targets, it must be reactivated.

No Rage is expended if Heroic Strike is parried or dodged. Rage is expended if Heroic Strike hits or is blocked.

Tips and Tactics[]

As the warrior's first ability, this ability is used constantly during the first few levels, mostly because there are few other options for spending Rage.

Heroic Strike costs 15 rage, and a successful Heroic Strike attack does not generate rage. As a result, the actual cost of Heroic Strike is 15 rage + the rage that would have been generated on a successful auto-attack. For a 1-handed weapon, this may only amount to around 20 rage, but for a slow 2-handed weapon this can amount to Heroic Strike costing 25 rage (a quarter of a warrior's rage bar) or more. As warriors train other abilities, this extra Rage cost (or lack of Rage generation) makes Heroic Strike less useful than at lower levels.

When tanking, this ability is not as useful as Devastate or Sunder Armor due to its lower natural threat value, its removal of rage generation from normal attacks, and being tied to the weapon's swing timer. However, burning extra rage on Heroic Strike (especially if the rage bar is nearing full) will result in a significant increase in threat per second. Be sure to spend Rage on keeping 5 Sunders, Thunder Clap, shouts, and other debuffs on a mob before starting to use Heroic Strike on it, and make sure to save enough rage to use cooldown abilities like Shield Block, Revenge, Spell Reflection, etc.

In addition, Heroic Strike does not activate the global cooldown and can therefore be used at the same time as another attack. Heroic Strike will dequeue if Cleave or Slam are activated, as both affect 'the next swing'. Similarly, activating Heroic Strike will dequeue Cleave (or stop a Slam in progress).

Many dedicated warrior tanks take both Improved Heroic Strike in the Arms tree to reduce the rage cost of Heroic Strike, along with Focused Rage in the Protection tree, increasing greatly the value and functionality of Heroic Strike as an efficient way to dump rage and generate threat along with instant attacks such as Revenge, Shield Slam, Sunder Armor, and Devastate.

If in a group but not performing a tanking role, Heroic Strike should not be used too often due to the bonus threat the ability generates. Give priority to other attacks and use Heroic Strike sparingly.

To make a better use of the daze bonus on ranks 10 and higher, use Heroic Strike after Piercing Howl, which dazes nearby enemies.
